Keimfleck is a designer duo established in 2021 by Chengyi Qian and Suzhi Xu, with a cross-disciplinary background in architectural design and anthropology. Their practice operates at the intersection of material research, socio-cultural memory, and esoteric structure, creating furniture and wearable objects that crystallize the contradictions and subtleties of East Asian cultural memory through the lens of contemporary design.
Their works often originate from field-based investigations and lived experience—ranging from the fragmented yet interdependent industrial ecologies of rural Chinese factory zones to the communal kitchens in old housing projects’ alleyways. Rooted in Taoist metaphysics and industrial pragmatism, Keimfleck integrates the Yin-Yang principle as a structural methodology—where contrast becomes continuity, and form emerges through internal coherence.
Through a narrative-driven approach, their work frequently incorporates reclaimed regional materials and traditional symbolism to explore the evolving identity of East Asia amid rapid global urban transformation. With a focus on cultural memory and systemic logic, Keimfleck represents a new generation of design voices—materially reflective, socially grounded, and philosophically engaged.
